Sentec receives Queen’s Award for Enterprise

Lord-Lieutenant recognises outstanding growth in international trade

Sentec, the metering technology specialist, partner in Aquiba, has been presented with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category by Mr Hugh Duberly CBE, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire. The Cambridge-based company was presented with a certificate signed by the Queen along with a commemorative trophy yesterday, in recognition of its exceptional growth over the last three years, during which time the company more than trebled its overseas earnings to £4.3m. Mark England, MD, accepts Queen's Award from the Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire.

The Lord-Lieutenant was greeted by Dr Mark England, managing director of Sentec and introduced to senior members of the team, who then escorted Mr Duberly on a tour of the premises. The Lord-Lieutenant enjoyed demonstrations of the technology that fuelled Sentec’s award winning growth, including its Lattice gas metering technology, a new wireless toaster project and the Mobius high performance current sensor that has recently been licensed to the National Grid for use in new smart meters for the UK market.

The demonstrations and awarding of the certification and trophy to honour the company’s achievements was followed by a champagne toast by the whole company.

Mr Duberly commented: “As the Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire I am exceptionally pleased to present Sentec with a Queen’s Award for Innovation. By trebling its overseas earnings in just three years the company has shown tremendous strength and innovation, along with a commitment to building a thriving business in the city of Cambridge. This is a great testament to the hard work of Sentec’s employees and they should be very proud of their achievement.”

Mark England, managing director of Sentec said: “Sentec is pleased to welcome Lord-Lieutenant Hugh Duberly to its laboratories and I am honoured to receive the Queen’s award on behalf of the company in recognition of all the hard work we have put into achieve our substantial growth. We always strive to excel in our field and pride ourselves on creating commercially successful projects from our patented technologies. The Sentec team combines a strong work ethic with a world class level of expertise, and the recognition from the Queen’s Award panel is fantastic.”

Sentec’s award winning growth was achieved by implementing a successful market strategy that involves licensing selected partners and providing them with support during product development and continuing consultancy services. As a result, Sentec technology is now included in almost half (approximately 5 million) of the smart electricity meters currently installed in the USA and in 7 million meters in total. Sentec is also continuing its commitment to the advancement of smart metering closer to home, by finalising a licensing agreement with OnStream, a National Grid company, to bring Sentec’s flagship Mobius current sensor technology to the UK smart electric meter market.

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the UK's most prestigious awards for business performance. They recognise and reward outstanding achievement by UK companies, with the International Trade category recognising organisations that have demonstrated growth in overseas earnings. Announced to coincide with Her Majesty’s birthday on 21st April with award ceremonies organised at later dates, the awards are given annually to companies selected by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an advisory committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions.
